Author guidelines

1. Scope and General Policy

This journal accepts original, unpublished manuscripts reporting empirical research, theoretical reviews, or case studies within the journal's scopes . Manuscripts must not be under simultaneous consideration by another journal. All submissions are processed through the journal's Open Journal System (OJS).

the journal enforces:

  • Similarity index below 20-25% (checked via Turnitin/iThenticate)
  • Minimum 80% primary references (peer-reviewed journal articles) published within the last 10 years, with at least 40% from the last 5 years
  • Blind peer-review by at least two reviewers
  • Compliance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines

2. Manuscript Length and Language

  • Length: 5,000-8,000 words, including references, tables, and figures
  • Language: English (formal academic English; non-native speakers are encouraged to use professional proofreading services prior to submission)
  • File format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx), Times New Roman 12pt, 1.5 line spacing, A4 paper, 2.5-3 cm margins

Abstract

150-250 words, single paragraph, structured implicitly (background, objective, method, results, conclusion), no citations

Keywords

3-5 terms, alphabetically ordered, avoid repeating title words, separated with (;)

Introduction

Background, literature gap, state of the art, novelty/contribution statement, research objective(s)

Literature Review

(If required) Theoretical framework, prior studies, hypothesis development

Methods

Research design, population/sample, instruments, data collection and analysis procedures - sufficiently detailed for replication

Results and Discussion

Present findings objectively; discuss in relation to prior literature; avoid redundant repetition between tables and text

Conclusion

Directly answers the research objective; states limitations and future research directions; no new data

Acknowledgments

Optional; funding sources, non-author contributors

Author Contributions

Recommended (e.g., CRediT taxonomy: conceptualization, methodology, writing, etc.)

References

Minimum 30-40 sources for research articles; higher for review articles

 

4. Citation and Referencing

  • Reference style: APA 7th edition (or specify: IEEE / Vancouver / Chicago, depending on the journal's field)
  • Use of a reference manager (Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote) is strongly recommended
  • All in-text citations must correspond to an entry in the reference list and vice versa
  • DOI must be included for all references where available
  • Avoid excessive self-citation (recommended limit: less than 10% of total references)

5. Tables, Figures, and Equations

  • Numbered sequentially (Table 1, Figure 1, etc.) with descriptive captions above tables and below figures
  • Referenced explicitly in the text before their appearance
  • High-resolution images (minimum 300 dpi) submitted as separate files if requested
  • Equations numbered consecutively in parentheses, right-aligned

6. Submission Requirements

Authors must submit:

  1. Full manuscript (anonymized for blind review - no author names/affiliations in the file)
  2. Title page
  3. Cover letter stating originality and significance of the work
  4. Similarity/plagiarism check report
  5. Ethical clearance/informed consent documentation (for studies involving human/animal subjects)

7. Editorial Process and Publication Policy

Editorial Decision

The final decision on publication is made by the JIIGS Editorial Team based on the manuscript’s academic quality, relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, reviewers’ recommendations, and compliance with editorial and ethical standards.

The Editorial Team may edit accepted manuscripts for language, clarity, formatting, and consistency without altering the authors’ substantive arguments or findings. Any substantial changes will be communicated to the authors.

Publication Timeline

The duration of the editorial and peer-review process may vary depending on reviewer availability, revisions required, and the editorial process. Authors will be informed of the status and decisions regarding their manuscripts through the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS).

Publication Frequency

The Journal of International Issues in the Global South (JIIGS) is published twice a year (biannually). Articles are selected based on academic quality, relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, and successful completion of the peer-review and editorial processes.
