Peer Review Process

Eduvelop: Journal of English Education and Development is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal. All manuscripts submitted to Eduvelop undergo a rigorous peer-review process to assess their academic quality, originality, methodological soundness, relevance to the journal’s scope, and contribution to the field of English education and development.

The peer-review process involves at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. In the double-blind review process, the identities of the authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the review process. The peer-review process at Eduvelop consists of the following stages:

1. Manuscript Submission

The corresponding author submits the manuscript through the Open Journal System (OJS) of Eduvelop. Authors are required to follow the journal's submission guidelines and ensure that the manuscript meets the required formatting, ethical, and technical requirements before submission.

2. Initial Editorial Assessment

Upon submission, the manuscript is initially assessed by the Editorial Team to determine whether it is appropriate for the focus and scope of Eduvelop: Journal of English Education and Development.

The editor also checks the manuscript's structure, completeness, formatting, language, references, and compliance with the journal's Author Guidelines. At this stage, the manuscript may also be assessed for basic methodological suitability and potential ethical concerns.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's basic requirements or fall outside its scope may be rejected without proceeding to external peer review.

3. Plagiarism and Similarity Check

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are checked using an appropriate plagiarism or similarity detection system. The similarity check is conducted to identify potential plagiarism, excessive textual overlap, or inappropriate reuse of previously published material.

The similarity report is considered as part of the editorial assessment and does not automatically determine whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected. The editor evaluates the context and sources of the identified similarities.

4. Editorial Screening by the Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief or a designated handling editor evaluates the manuscript to determine whether it demonstrates sufficient originality, academic relevance, methodological quality, and potential contribution to the field.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's academic standards or are considered unsuitable for publication may be rejected at this stage without external peer review.

5. Reviewer Selection and Invitation

Manuscripts that pass the editorial screening are assigned to qualified reviewers whose expertise is relevant to the manuscript's topic and methodology.

At least two independent reviewers are invited to evaluate the manuscript. Reviewers are selected based on their academic expertise, research interests, experience, and availability. Reviewers are also expected to declare any potential conflict of interest before accepting an invitation.

Eduvelop applies a double-blind peer-review system, meaning that reviewers do not know the identity of the authors, and authors do not know the identity of the reviewers.

6. Peer Review

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript objectively and provide constructive comments to assist the authors in improving the quality of their work.

The review generally considers:

  • originality and novelty of the manuscript;
  • relevance to the focus and scope of Eduvelop;
  • clarity and significance of the research problem;
  • adequacy of the theoretical framework and literature review;
  • appropriateness and rigor of the research methodology;
  • clarity and validity of the results;
  • quality of the discussion and interpretation of findings;
  • contribution to English education and development;
  • clarity and coherence of the manuscript;
  • ethical considerations; and
  • adequacy and relevance of the references.

Based on their evaluation, reviewers may recommend:

  1. Accept;
  2. Minor Revision;
  3. Major Revision; or
  4. Reject.

The final editorial decision is not determined solely by the recommendation of an individual reviewer.

7. Editorial Evaluation of Review Reports

After receiving the reviewers' reports, the Editor-in-Chief or handling editor evaluates the comments and recommendations.

If the reviewers provide substantially different recommendations or require further assessment, the editor may invite an additional reviewer to provide an independent evaluation.

The editor considers the reviewers' comments together with the manuscript's quality, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, and contribution when making the editorial decision.

8. Editorial Decision and Notification

The corresponding author receives an editorial decision through the OJS system. The decision may include:

  • Accept – the manuscript is accepted for publication;
  • Minor Revision – limited revisions are required before acceptance;
  • Major Revision – substantial revisions are required and the manuscript may undergo further review; or
  • Reject – the manuscript is not accepted for publication.

Where applicable, anonymized reviewer comments are provided to the authors to guide the revision process.

9. Revision and Final Decision

When revisions are requested, authors are expected to revise the manuscript carefully in accordance with the reviewers' and editor's comments. Authors may also be required to provide a point-by-point response explaining how each comment has been addressed.

The revised manuscript must be resubmitted through the OJS within the timeframe specified by the editor.

A revised manuscript may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation, particularly when major revisions are required. For manuscripts requiring only minor revisions, the handling editor may assess the revised manuscript without another round of external review.

The final decision to accept a manuscript rests with the Editor-in-Chief based on the overall quality of the revised manuscript and the recommendations of the reviewers.

10. Copyediting, Production, and Publication

Once a manuscript is formally accepted, it proceeds to the editorial production stage, including copyediting, proofreading, layout, and final preparation for publication.

The final version is published online through the Eduvelop OJS platform and made openly accessible to readers in accordance with the journal's Open Access Policy and Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.
